Spring Hill Chargers

06/23/2011 - Keg Travels Back to Its Home and Chargers Travel Across Countryside

The Chargers have determined their own destiny after sweeping the Elrosa Saints in a weekend series.  The Chargers powered their way to two wins and clinched the SCL North.  The most important storyline of the series has to be the news of the Traveling Keg Trophy making its way back to the comforts of Spring Hill.

The Chargers squared off on Saturday evening for a Saturday night special under the lights of Elrosa’s “Cargo Shorts Memorial Stadium.”  A warm June night found Charger ace Shawn Schoenberg on the mound and taking command for the lightning bolts.  Schoenberg went the distance allowing one run giving up five hits and striking out seven Saints.  The Charger offense came out the gates hot on this sweaty Saturday evening, scoring early and often.  The Chargers compiled seven runs on 13 hits, four of which were for extra bases, and found any way to get on the base path.  When on the path most Chargers were not afraid of getting good jumps and stealing bases at will.  The Chargers capped off a good night at the diamond hoisting the Keg high on their shoulders in the 7-1 victory.

On Sunday the Saints made their way over to Charger Field for the second game of the double header weekend.  The Chargers made quick work of the Saints on Sunday defeating them in seven innings by a score of 11-0.  Eric Schoenberg went the distance for the Chargers striking out six and giving up just one hit on the day.  The sluggish Saints gave up 11 runs on 12 hits for the day, and gave 100% effort but came up short.  Shawn and Corey Schoenberg each blasted a homerun which helped spark the Chargers six run 3rd inning to deflate the Saints.

The Chargers team fathers Randy Schoenberg and Gordon Barten could not have asked for a better gift on Father’s Day than a weekend sweep except for an evening milker to go with it.  The Chargers have locked up first place in the north with four games remaining in the regular season. The Chargers hope to keep the momentum going from these big wins as they finish out the season and head into the playoffs.  With all of the excitement from the weekend the Chargers scheduled an “Evening Autograph Session” where players went door to door and bedroom to bedroom signing autographs for their beloved fans.  A few lucky fans were fortunate enough get pictures with members of the Charger Caravan, whether they wanted them or not.  Beware of the Charger Caravan making appearances near you.  Till next time, stay dry Charger Nation.
