Spring Hill Chargers

05/15/2011 - Chargers off to a Hot Start

After a healthy dose of card playing and carbonated beverages the Chargers finally took the field in a weekend double header.  On Saturday the Chargers pulled out the stocking hats and gloves and traveled to Lake Henry.  The lack luster Lakers were excited to be there on such a pleasant day in Central Minnesota.  The Chargers got off to a fast start getting runners on and scoring two in the first.  The new game plan of scoring often has seemed to work out well for the Chargers during baseball games only.  The Chargers got on the board in all but two of the seven inning game.  Corey Schoenberg and Eric Schoenberg round out most of the offensive highlights for the Chargers combining 6 for 8 with two doubles, two HR's and twelve RBI's.  Smart base running helped the lightning bolts score a couple as the Lakers and everyone in the stadium seemed confused by playmaker Shawn Schoenberg's strategy on the base path.  It was just what the Chargers needed to get the season started and to deflate the overly excited Lakers.  Eric Schoenberg was the winning pitcher relieved by Brad Terres in the fifth.

Sunday the Chargers dried out their cleats and cleared up their bloodshot eyes as they traveled to Meire Grove to face off with the Grovers.  The Chargers made early work of getting into starting pitcher Matt Imdieke's head by breaking his windshield during batting practice.  "We knew we had to find a way to rattle him, and we did a nice job of hitting him where it hurts, his new car!" said manager and uncle Gordon Barten.  Defensive plays by Eric Schoenberg and Chris Spanier shut down any hope of a Meire Grove rallies.   The speedy Chargers stole 7 bases from the self proclaimed sheriff of the Stearns County League, and one catcher's indifference by Nathan Terres.  The chargers scored five runs on nine hits and committed one error on the day.  Brent Terres earned the win for the Chargers and Shawn Schoenberg closed the door on the surging Grovers for the three inning save.  It was a team effort for Spring Hill on the weekend with every member of the squad seeing playing time in both games.
