07/30/2013 - Chargers Return to Region 15C Tournament After Playoff Explosions

After a long and cold regular season, in more ways than one, the Chargers have been heating up as of late.  A dismal 7-10 overall regular season record disappointed fans and followers more than not getting their weekly Charger Article Update.  The Chargers lost 5 games during the regular season by less than 3 runs but have outscored opponents 15-3 during the playoffs.

The Chargers earned the lowly 4 seed for the 2013 playoff picture and traveled to New Munich to take on the #1 Silverstreaks.  A 2-1 victory sparked the Chargers bats like a pack of firecrackers.  It was a total team effort for the Chargers lead offensively by Nathan Terres (1-3) who stole second base from the streaks to set the table for the Chargers to get on the board.  Eric Schoenberg (1-3, R, BB, RBI) drove in a run and scored one of his own on a series of unfortunate events for the streaks.  Grant Schoenberg (1-3) and Kyle Bertram (1-3) added to the Chargers offense on the day.  On the hill for Spring Hill was a trio of Chargers to hold the Streaks bats in check.  Chris Spanier kept hitters from getting too comfortable in the batter’s box.  Spanier started on the day, relieved by Brent Terres in the second inning.  Terres went 4 and 2/3 innings keeping hitters off balance with the teat dip residue he leaves on the ball.  Some say it’s an unfair advantage that older brother Brad Terres doesn’t use because he never does chores.  Corey Schoenberg came in for the extended save in the 7th closing the door on the Silverstreaks just like 2 a.m. at Shady’s.  With that win the Chargers punched their ticket to the 2013 Region 15C Tourney.

The Chargers then traveled to Elrosa for a tournament seeding game and most importantly to bring the Keg back to its rightful home.  The Chargers again exploded like illegal fireworks; in a 13-2 victory the Chargers pounded 13 runs on 18 hits while committing 1 error.  The Chargers scored nearly every inning of the game and some fans might have thought that they were playing in Regal the way hits were falling.  There were several Chargers with multiple hits but it looked like Corey Schoenberg was hitting the Lynx going 5-5 on the day.  Eric Terres, Cody Eichers, Eric Schoenberg, and Grant Schoenberg all had multiple hits on the day.  Nate and Eric Terres also had stolen bases on the day, who might be the most dangerous base runners for both teams on the field.  Nate with 7 swiped bags is still searching for a catcher to keep him in check with his blazing speed.  With the top of the order reaching base, it enabled the duo of Schoenbergs to drive home a combined 7 runs.  For the third time this season the Chargers reached double digits in the run column, that in previous years was a common occurrence.  The Charger pitching staff once again kept hitters at bay surrendering 3 runs on 7 hits.  Chris Spanier again got the nod for the Chargers going 7 and picking up the win.  Corey Schoenberg relieved him in the 8th slamming the door on any Saints advances.  The keg is back atop its place in Extra Innings with no need to worry about its safety and well-being, the unsightly view it had in Elrosa is no way to treat a pristine trophy of its caliber.

Looking ahead for the Chargers, they play the Martins of St. Martin at 1:30 on Saturday August 3rd.  The dirty birds of St. Martin are flying high coming off a big victory of their own, but the Chargers are looking to poach them.  Spring Hill has once again drafted the Region 15C Realtor of the year, Matt Imdieke, who now does not force his grandma to split time cheering.  This year’s additions to the 15C Tournament include from the north Spring Hill, Elrosa, New Munich, from the south Richmond, Lake Henry, St. Martin all in their respective seeds.  The County Line League brings Regal and New London-Spicer look to represent their league in this year’s tournament.  You can now order your Regal socks and other apparel online, get them while they are still in the tourney.  Check them out on twitter #Nextbigthing #tweetabouteverything.

Good Luck to all the teams competing this weekend, and remember there is NO wrestling in Farming.
