Spring Hill Chargers

04/25/2013 - Pieces in Place for Another Strong Year

The question of the SCL-North is will the Chargers be as strong as last year?

The answer is, if all the pieces are there, yes. The Chargers dominated the SCL-North regular season and while they were defeated, they were rarely out of nay game they played in.

The team had depth throughout its lineup, and led by a contingent of Terres and Schoenbergs, has a number of offensive weapons.

The bats of Shawn and Corey Schoenberg provide plenty of power. The two combined for seven home runs last year and drove in 37 runs. Corey Schoenberg's .337 average came as a result of 28 hits and he drove in 21 runs.

The top average on the team belonged to Jamie Terres at .411, also one of the top averages in the area. He and Nathan Terres (.363 obp), made a habit of getting on base and getting into position to score. Jamie Terres, who had four home runs last year, scored 25 runs to lead the team. Shawn Schoenberg had 24 and Nate Terres and Eric Schoenberg had 19 runs each.

That group of players also forms the core of a very solid defense, starting with Nate Terres behind the plate, Jamie Terres and Eric Schoenberg in the infield, and Shawn Schoenberg and Corey Schoenberg in the outfield.

Ironically, none of them are the player most fans thought of when Spring Hill was mentioned last year.

That designation went to Louie Opatz, who led the team in innings pitches (80), wins (10), and was a significant contributor to the Chargers offense during the whole year.

The addition of Opatz did help the team, but Spring Hill does have a lot of other talent. Players such as Jordan and Joe Welle will have another season under their belts and should be ready to make contributions to the Chargers' team.

If all the pieces come together, Spring Hill will be as strong, if not stronger than last year. Even if they don't, the Chargers will still be a team others have to beat if they want to compete in the SCL-North.
