Spring Hill Chargers

07/30/2014 - Extra inning thrillers in SCL

Spring Hill- Spring Hill won 4-3 in the 14th inning Sunday, July 27. New Munich had taken a 1-0 first inning lead on a bases loaded walk to Jon Gaebel.  The walk forced in Chad Funk.  Behind a strong pitching performance from Jim Thull, the SilverStreaks held that lead for most of the game.  Thull held the normally hard hitting Chargers to only three hits in the nine innings he worked.  He left the game after nine innings.  Spring Hill’s Jordan Welle retired 18 consecutive batters after the first inning.  In the eighth inning New Munich again put runs on the board.  A walk and an infield error placed Jacob Hinnenkamp and Funk on base.  An outfield error followed by a sacrifice bunt by Joe Stangler, allowed those two to score.  Spring Hill’s luck began to turn in the ninth inning.  With one out Eric Schoenberg reached on an error and Louie Opatz, who had three hits, singled.  With two out New Munich committed two more errors and then Shawn Schoenberg delivered a two-run single to tie the game. Both sides had chances to score before the 13th inning, but both missed a game-winning hit.  In the 13th a single by Eric Terres, a walk to Jamie Terres put two runners on.  With two out Nathan Terres and Cody Eichers were hit by the pitch to force across the game-winning run.

New Munich finished with two hits in the game.  They forced Spring Hill to strand 18 base runners.  Both New Munich and Spring Hill will be competing in the upcoming Region 15C playoffs at Elrosa.  New Munich faces Norway Lake-Sunburg of the County Line League Saturday, at 1:30 p.m.  Spring Hill faces Richmond of the SCL-South at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
