Spring Hill Chargers

06/16/2014 - Spring Hill-7 Elrosa-2

Spring Hill rallied for six runs in the 10th inning to post a 7-2 win at Elrosa this evening. The Chargers behind a strong pitching performance by Louie Opatz had pretty much shut down the Saints for the first seven innings. Elrosa, coming through with good defensive plays, had kept the Chargers shut out for the same period of time.  Opatz faced only 22 batters in the first seven innings. Matt Middendorf singled in the fourth to reach first base.

Spring Hill got its runners on; it would strand 15 in the game, but not across the plate until the   Elrosa centerfielder Austin Imdieke ended a Charger scoring threat in the third inning when he threw to catcher Brandon Roelike to put out Eric Terres for the third out. Five times before the eighth inning, Spring Hill was retired with runners in scoring position.

The Chargers scored on back-to-back doubles by Nathan Terres and Eric Schoenberg in the eighth inning. Elrosa responded with a one-run rally of its own. After James Kuefler singled, he was moved to second by Steve Mueller’s sacrifice. He scored on a single by Matt Bauer.

The Chargers batted around in the 10th inning. A one-out walk to Eric Schoenberg started the rally. Grant Schoenberg then reached on an error and Chris Spanier and Corey Schoenberg drew walks to force in a run. Eric Terres, Jamie Terres, and Shawn Schoenberg followed with doubles and Cody Eichers drew a walk before the inning ended.

An infield error allowed Mueller to reach base for Elrosa in the 10th. He eventually scored, but Spring Hill was willing to exchange runs for outs at that point and took the win. Opatz, who pitched the first eight innings, was credited with the win.  Brady Weller, who pitched into the 10th inning, was charged with the loss.
